A whole new trilogy of "Men In Black" movie franchise is on the way - but according to recent developments, Will Smith is unlikely to be involved in the project.

Sony Pictures had to bring a lot of money to bring back "Men In Black 3," the 2012 feature film made $625M worldwide but due to the meagre script, fans and critics did not approve it.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald revealed that a new trilogy of "Men in Black" franchise in in development by Sony Pictures. "We're in the middle of it. It's very active," said Walter Parkes while confirming that Will Smith is not a part of the discussion.

Walter Parkes said that Will Smith, who played Agent J in all the three "Men in Black" films, is not going to be involved with the new films. Laurie added that the new sci-fi-comedy franchise will be a new lookout to the entire series without the 47-year-old Will Smith.

The news about new "Men in Black" franchise started last year when the internet was surfaced with leaked e-mails from Sony Pictures. The e-mails suggested that Sony was planning a "21 Jump Street," and "Men in Black" crossover. According to Comingsoon.net, earlier this year it was confirmed that Sony was in fact, developing a crossover of "21 Jump Street," and "Men in Black." However, neither Walter Parkes nor Laurie MacDonald officially responded on whether or not Sony would involve "Men in Black" with "Jump Street" series.

There is no confirmation from Sony Pictures at this moment but it would be something new to see in "Men in Black" if Will Smith would not be a part of it. Along with that, if the studio will merge "Jump Street" with "Men in Black" then the movie would be a sure watch.
