Miles Teller really threw himself into the role of the boxer in "Bleed for This" and also affected his relationship with girlfriend Keleigh Sperry in some way.
"He was ripped and shriveled," Sperry told Us Weekly. "But he was also boring. He wouldn't drink."
The "Divergent: Allegiant - Part 1" actor said that he really focused on transforming his body to play Vinny Pazienza in "Bleed for This."
"You can't eat anything that you want. You have to be very - I just kind of locked myself away," he said. "Like I remember Halloween was the only night I drank really in like eight months. I didn't eat bread for seven months."
He went on to add, "You have to just stay committed. You're playing a professional boxer. It's embarrassing if you're not in good shape. I just didn't want to be embarrassed by not putting in the work physically."
But as his girlfriend Keleigh Sperry already said, Miles Teller really dropped the weight from 188 pounds to 168 Ibs, along with a six percent body fat.
"It takes a long time to transform your body," he added. "I thought that you start doing some crunches, you get abs. It's like no, man, you gotta totally change your body's chemistry...but I always love when actors do an accent or change their bodyweight so I was excited for the opportunity."
"Bleed For This" is about "Pazienza's miraculous recovery from a car crash that left him with a broken back. He was told he might never walk again, let alone fight, but no one could stop the Pazmanian Devil, a world champ in two weight classes," the synopsis reads.
In a previous interview with E! News, Miles Teller described his relationship with girlfriend Keleigh Sperry as "lovely."
"It's been pretty easy because right now, her full-time gig is kind of being with me and before her, I would never invite a girl into that world because I didn't think I could have both," he said. "She's allowed me to be able to really focus on acting and do what I want to do. She can come to set and visit me and hang out and doesn't really distract me from it."
