The 28-year-old Clarke was named the "Sexiest Women Alive" by Esquire on Tuesday, the prestigious title held by Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz through the past two years. Emilia Clarke Esquire's "Sexiest Women Alive" Title Is Well Deserved
"She manages to bring together a number of opposites, to make them natural: sweetness and toughness, emotionalism with a kind of cold-blooded determination," Benjamin Markovits wrote in the article accompanying the award. "Something in these contrasts explains her sex appeal, too. She can play queen and kid sister, dominatrix and pal," he noted, reported Esquire.
Lisa Hintelmann, editorial projects director for the magazine said that Clarke is admired for all the roles she dealt with. Hintelmann also noted in an email that the British actress is unforgettable for her role in "Game of Thrones" and was an obvious choice for the title among Esquire's staff, family and friends.
Emilia Clarke Esquire Interview
"My agent told the casting director, 'I know that the breakdown for this character is tall and willowy and blonde. I know she's short and round and brown, but I'd like you to see her,'" said Clarke in her interview with Esquire about her entry into the renowned movie. "I had two scenes which told me nothing and not very much time in which to read all those [George R. R. Martin] books. So I did what every good actor does and Wikipedia'd the living crap out of it," she added.
Clarke also confessed that she had to face lot of challenges earlier in her career. She had to handle scenes involving full frontal nudity, a rape and a lot of scenes involving sex. She added that she would break up for coffee amid shoot, cry a little and get ready for the next scene.
