Colombian singer Shakira admitted that she's a "tiger mom" and her son, Milan, is quickly taking after his father Gerard Pique in terms of love for football.
In an interview with Made for Mums, the "Waka Waka" singer said, "I'm a bit of a tiger mum. I have a little teacher inside of me.I really enjoy reading to my kids and they like learning. I like to find out the best way to stimulate my children."
"Tiger mom" refers to the mother who is overtly strict with her children, believed to be mostly associated with Asian culture. In pop culture, it has been touched on with the movies "Joy Luck Club" and "Vitus."
Author Amy Chua, a law professor at Yale, also touched on the subject in her controversial 2011 book "Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother."
Although she's a strict mother, Shakira also admitted that she can also be very expressive to a fault.
"I'm very touchy-touchy, hug them and kiss them... to death. Very intense! I think they're going to leave my house at 18 and say 'Bye mum. I'm outta here.'"
Shakira also revealed that her son Milan is "obsessed with football."
"He's the biggest Barca fan on the planet," she added. He sleeps with the Barca jersey on, he sleeps with the ball, he doesn't miss one match. He knows every single team, including England teams. He wears the t-shirt of all the teams."
Barca is the team where Shakira's partner Gerard Pique plays as defender.
On raising her sons, while she allows partner Gerard Pique a lot of inputs, Shakira also try to learn from the other mothers.
"And I learn from other research, but it's not easy," she added. "I want happiness for my kids, I want them to be responsible, I want them to be socially conscious. I want so many things for them, but happiness is my number one priority."
