When launched in the US on Sept. 28, Samsung Pay did not include in its list of partners Verizon Wireless, and there was no sign as to when the carrier will allow its subscribers to use the service.
This time, the app for the Big Red is now seen in the Google Play store. The Samsung Pay app for the other major carriers in the US has been downloadable since August, reported 9to5Google.
Once installed, the free app will automatically update itself. To use Samsung Pay, one should have a compatible device, which is either a Galaxy Note 5, S6, S6 Edge or S6 Edge+.
Samsung Pay launched in Korea first on Aug. 20, where its $30-million first month transactions are said to exceed expectations, according to the company.
The coming of Samsung Pay to Verizon Wireless was confirmed when a snapshot of email to Samsung representatives at Best Buy was posted by a Reddit user. For now, it only works with Mastercard, Visa and AMEX issued by a major bank like Bank of America and Citi.
According to Engadget, those who are not interested to use the mobile payment service may still want to download the update when it is available for them. The Samsung Pay app for Verizon Wireless customers comes with a patch of Stagefright Android vulnerability. Without it, your phone could still give hackers access just by sending an MMS that could infect your system.
Droid Life noted that during the weekend, Galaxy Note 5, S6, S6 Edge and S6 Edge+ owners on Verizon got an update that brought the latest Stagefright fix rounds, as well as Samsung's mobile payment service.
On Monday, a direct link of the latter was already on Google Play for the phone owners to install and then, pulled out. However, it came back on Wednesday with an announcement that Samsung Pay for Verizon Wireless customers is officially available on the Play store at 12PM ET.
