It has been years since "One for the Money," the first of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum book series, has been brought to the big screen starring Katherine Heigl, but without much success in the box office.

Probably because of the commercial flop of the movie, the following book in the series, "Two for the Dough," never made it into a film.

Though Janet Evanovich's book series already has a fan base, there are readers who have been disappointed over Katherine Heigl's portrayal of Stephanie Plum in the movie, and following it up with a sequel might be commercial suicide.

Even film critiques weren't impressed.

"Starring a painfully awkward Katherine Heigl, One for the Money mostly resembles a failed television pilot, a feeling which is only reinforced by its late-January release and failure to be screened for critics," The Hollywood Reporter wrote back when the movie was first released.

However, there have been rumors that Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books about the fun-loving and impulsive bounty hunter can be TV series.

Janet Evanonich herself talked about the possibility of a Stephanie Plum TV series last year when she promoted the 21st book of the Plum series, titled "Top Secret Twenty-One."

"I really liked the first movie, 'One for the Money.' I sold the rights to make the movie for $1 million," Janet Evanovich said, as quoted by Times Free Press. "With that money, I paid off all my kids' college loans, paid off all my credit cards and put a new roof on my house."

"I didn't have anything to do with production of the movie. It got terrible reviews, which I believe was mostly because Katherine Heigl was not liked by West Coast press," the author continued.

"I couldn't see her as Stephanie at first, but once she put that wig on I thought she was great. I went out and did publicity with her and she was very nice."

So, will fans be seeing a Stephanie Plum TV series anytime soon?

"Sony has the project now and is trying to take it to television," Evanonich said.

Despite the possibility of a TV series, it is still unclear if the project is indeed pushing through, or whether Sony would choose Katherine Heigl to play Stephanie Plum.
