Microsoft was forced to cancel some Surface Book preorders on its online store early this week, prompting customers to preorder again. There were some cases where banks flagged the purchases as fraud.
While preordering again ensures the transaction, shipping date is affected big time as the Surface Book will arrive to the customers later instead of soon, reported Microsoft News.
Some customers reported the cancellation in the Surface Reddit Community where they detailed their troubles, said Gotta Be Mobile. While the Surface Pro 4 tablet can replace a notebook, the Surface Book can be a high-end notebook PC. The top half of the Surface Book is a detachable tablet that supports its Pen accessory. It comes with a dedicated graphics processor, ports and extra batteries.
The cancellation of Microsoft Surface Book preorders was related to Microsoft Store's authorization issues. The first user of the forum thread said: "Might be unrelated but check to see if your bank flagged the purchase as fraud. Happened to me this morning."
Another user replied: "Yeah that's why they cancelled the order. I thought they wouldn't charge until it ships, my bank just put a hold on the funds." The user's pre-order was cancelled immediately so he does not expect to get the new laptop on release day because when he preordered again, it indicated "2 month ship date."
The Surface Book is priced $1,499 for the entry-level model and it is believed banks marked the buyer transactions as fraud because the purchase amount is so large. It is a way for banks to protect their customers from scammers and unauthorized charges.
Running Windows 10 Pro operating system, the Microsoft Surface Book comes with a 3000 x 2000 13.5-inch screen, as well as ports for USB and Surface Connect in order to be connected to other devices or to charge the device.
The high price of the Microsoft Surface Pro is the reason for the cancellation of some preorders.
The new laptop is priced $1,499 for an Intel Core i5 chipset, 128GB storage and 8GB RAM; $1,699 for a 256GB storage and 8GB RAM; $2,099 for Core i7 processor; and $3,199 for one with an Intel Core i7 processor, discrete graphics processor, 1TB storage and 16GB RAM.
