There were previous speculations that YouTube is working on a subscription service, and now the video-sharing site is announcing it formally.
For an ad-free watching, premium original content and more, the YouTube Red subscription service is launched for a $9.99 monthly fee, reported Phandroid.
With YouTube Red, one is entitled to ad-free playback, offline viewing of saved videos as well as have them play in the background on a mobile device. YouTube also brings a Netflix-like service, bringing premium content from other content creators. The YouTube Red subscription service gives a free 30-day trial starting October 28.
In its official blog post, YouTube said it wants to invest in the creativity of YouTube stars and give them the opportunity to realize their creative ambitions by developing new content. Members of YouTube Red will access new, original movies and series starting next year from its big creators, such as the contents that follow.
One is "A Trip to Unicorn Island." From the "Astronauts Wanted" team, this feature gives a glimpse inside the journey and life of Lilly Singh who embarked on a 26-city global tour and practice his mantra of "happiness is the only thing worth fighting for."
Feature-length "Lazer Team," a comedy from Rooster Teeth and Fullscreen Films, this centers on four small-town losers who found an alien ship which had a mysterious cargo that lead to a battle to save Earth.
"Scare PewDiePie" is a reality adventure series from "The Walking Dead" executive producers and creator at Skybound Entertainment and Maker Studios. This will give followers an experience of chills, laughters and thrills.
YouTube pop culture expert and educator MatPat invites the audience to ride on an innovative 360 VR experience in "360 Project from MatPat of Game Theory." Matt explores the real-life science behind video games by immersing gamers into scenarios they play every day.
"Untitled Joey Graceffa project" brings a new reality adventure series where Graceffa gathers top YouTubers for an unforgettable murder mystery. They will help each other to survive, but they were not aware that most will not make it out alive.
Another content YouTube Red subscription service will offer is from Mandeville Films and Fine Brothers Entertainment - "Sing It!" It is a comedy that satirizes reality singing contests.
