Frank Ocean's new album "Boy's Don't Cry" has received a lot of hype, but rapper Wale is not at all impressed.
In an interview with Power 105.1 FM, as shared by The Guardian, the rapper suggested that Frank Ocean wouldn't have been getting all the acclaim if he wasn't gay.
"If a dude was gay, man, he'd get a Grammy," he said. "They're gonna make fun of them. They're gonna throw their Twitter jokes ... but in the next three years there's probably gonna be a dude who's not even gay that's just like 'Man, this is my last resort' ... But nah, I would sign a gay rapper if he was dope. 'Go ahead man, go do that thing, go do them Versace fashion shows."
He continued his rant, "People are probably going to go bad on me for saying this, but it's an advantage to be gay in this country right now, that's just the fact of the matter."
Frank Ocean received the Grammy for best contemporary urban album in 2013 for his breakout "Channel Orange."
"'Channel Orange's" lyrical content broke new ground in urban music when Ocean made headlines for his sexual orientation," said LA Times. "Instead of a big cover story or PR-orchestrated announcement, the singer opened up about his sexuality by posting a letter that was originally meant to appear in the liner notes for the album in which he details the first time he fell in love with a man."
But Wale said that Frank Ocean only won the Grammy because he's gay.
"He got the Grammy joint, everything ... People look at it like you a hero, you a pioneer," he added.
Frank Ocean's new album, "Boy's Don't Cry," got a lot of hype and the singer even fueled all the buzz when he hinted that it's going to be dropped in July.
But August came with "Boy's Don't Cry" nowhere in sight, and Frank Ocean didn't issue an explanation regarding the delay of his new album.
