Blackberry Priv android apps have hit the Google Play store. These Blackberry Priv specific apps add to the Canadian phinemaker's long and storied history of building private and secure mobile solutions.
CEO John Chen had commented during the Code Mobile Conference, that the company aimed at taking benefits of the industry offerings. However, it was also sticking to its core strength of providing security and QWERTY keyboard, said The Verge.
The new Blackberry Priv specific apps are available at Google Play store including BlackBerry Launcher, Keyboard, Camera, and Services, as well as Password Keeper, DTEK by BlackBerry, and MicrosoftexFAT for BlackBerry.
Blackberry Launcher is one of the most noted apps that adds a number of new features to the Android home screen. This also includes a 'B' button to launch the browser, Blackberry Pop-Up Widgets and new icon packs.
With BB10, the company had launched the classic "floating word" suggestions and the feature is now available with the Blackberry Keyboard app. Later, it will also offer options for customising settings on the physical keyboard.
MicrosoftexFAT uses exFAT that will enable users to format SDXC cards while DTEK by Blackberry will enable users to track their privacy and security settings including the data being collected by each app installed on the phone, said Value Walk.
One of the biggest advantages of having each app on the Google Play Store is that it will enable Blackberry to update apps individually and make them available on the app store rather than sending them as one Blackberry software update.
However, these apps are yet not available for downloads, creating angst among BB users. Blackberry watchers feared if the apps were exclusive to the Blackberry Priv or if they were plicable to non-BB Android phones, said Trusted Reviews.
The Google play store apps will be available for download only when the company starts shipping its pre-orders on November 06, 2015. Some industry rumors say that these apps will come pre-installed on new devices, said Android Headlines.
