The "Rookie Blue" season 7 cancellation was addressed by the series' lead star, Missy Peregrym. Fans of the show also seemingly expected the show's untimely ending.
TV Series Finale reported about how the actress, who plays perfectionist cop Andy McNally, spoke up after ABC announced the show's cancellation.
"You know what made Rookie Blue different? That each person was so unique, and we cared enough to fight for the best in each other," Missy Peregrym wrote on her blog.
"The connection you saw on screen began off camera. Many days I didn't feel that I had what it took. Guess who got me through? My teammates that became much more than that."
"They challenged me, all of them, through different ways because of their strengths and weaknesses," she added.
Missy Peregrym also revealed some of the struggles that she and the cast went through before "Rookie Blue" season 7 ended.
"Sometimes it was excruciating to be sitting across someone I didn't understand, or agree with," she admitted.
"Sometimes I didn't have the tools to deal with what we presented each other, and that can be humiliating."
"But we chose to be family. And family can only be close with authenticity," she concluded.
Deadline reported earlier this month about ABC's decision to pull the plug on the Canadian drama series.
Production company Shaw Media also talked about the successful run of "Rookie Blue" prior to season 7 getting cancelled.
"The success of Rookie Blue is a testament not only to the extremely talented [production team], but the electrifying cast that has resonated with legions of fans that have followed the show since Season 1," said Christine Shipton, SVP and Chief Creative Officer at Shaw Media.
"After six seasons the series reached a natural conclusion, and this season's finale was the perfect wrap-up for both our rookies and for fans."
Viewers shared their sentiments on the internet about the cancellation of "Rookie Blue" season 7.
"This is ABC's BEST summer show," said a fan named Kelly N. "I am disappointed in the mindless decision to remove a great show from the air."
"Do executives make it a point to cancel the best shows leaving crap television. This was a horrible decision," the fan added.
However, some of the show's fans admitted that they expected the show to not return anymore.
"I really enjoyed the series' wrap-up episode and I had a suspicion it would not return next year," said a fan named Christopher. "While I am bit bummed out, at least us long-time fans of the show received a bit of closure with the final episode."
