The news about "Pitch Perfect 3" reached fever-pitch with the report that Elizabeth Banks will be returning to direct the third installment in the franchise.
But where do the Barden Bellas go from capturing the world title?
"Sequels, as usual, are also where we encounter tricky territory," said Washington Post. "Are the Barden Bellas comprised solely of undergraduates?"
It continued, "Kendrick will be 31 by the time "Pitch Perfect 3″ comes out on July 21, 2017, and Wilson will be 37. Would it be so awful if they played harried graduate students in their return? And if the first movie was focused on a national championship and the second had the a capella group trained on a world title, what exactly comes next? Do they turn pro? Is that a thing?"
Apparently, there's such a thing as professional acapella competition and that's probably where "Pitch Perfect 3" is heading towards, although there's no news report that revealed details about the storyline.
Marie Claire, meanwhile, speculated that Hailee Steinfeld's character will become a major voice in the Barden Bellas in "Pitch Perfect 3."
"Seeing as Hailee Steinfeld has just started making waves as a singer, it seems pretty obvious her character, Emily Junk, will be back as she leads the Barden Bellas (with the help of the alumni of course) to winning another national championship," it said.
Previously, Variety published a news exclusive about Elizabeth Banks returning to direct "Pitch Perfect 3."
"Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow and Rebel Wilson have already closed deals to return, with Kay Cannon on board to pen the script. The studio recently dated the film to bow on Aug. 4, 2017, but at the time Banks was weighing other projects to direct and hadn't committed to return," it said.
