Facebook on Thursday rolled out a new post format dubbed 'Music Stories', while allows users to post a 30-second clip of a song from Apple Music, iTunes or Spotify directly to their News Feed.

It is as simple as posting a song link from Apple Music, iTunes or Spotify. The post will automatically be formatted to play 30 seconds, and the listener is then given the option to purchase the music or stream it from the respective service, reported TechTimes.

"On the Facebook iPhone app, songs and albums shared from the leading music services will become "Music Stories," a new post format which allows people to listen to a 30-second preview of the shared song (or album) while on Facebook.

The preview is streamed from either Apple Music or Spotify (depending on the source of the link shared), and can be purchased from or saved to the respective music streaming service," Facebook's blog post read.

Until now, Facebook users could post a status saying they are listening to an artist or particular song by that artist, but for others to hear that tune; they would have to exit the site or app and open their preferred streaming service.

But, now, thanks to the new feature called 'Music Stories' that users can share a 30 second long snippet of a song they are currently listening to on the aforementioned music streaming services.

In order to make use of Facebook's 'Music Stories' feature, users can share in app or simply paste a song link into a status box and Facebook will do the rest.

The social networking giant announced that it is planning to expand the new music discovery feature to add support for more streaming music services soon, reported The Verge.

"We hope by making this experience better, artists will share more, friends will share and engage more, and music will become a better part of the Facebook experience overall," Michael Cerda, Director of Product at Facebook, said in the blog post.

The new feature is rolling out to iOS users around the world beginning Thursday.
