Justin Bieber's new song, "Love Yourself," might just be a diss against ex-girlfriend, but all the mean things in the lyrics didn't really jibe with what transpire between the former lovers.
"Love Yourself" is part of the Bieb's latest album, "Purpose," and Selena Gomez's ex debuted the album on Zane Lowe's Beats Radio.
The lyrics of Justin Bieber's new song include the lines:
"For all the times that you rain on my parade/And all the clubs you get in using my name/You think you broke my heart, oh girl for goodness sake/You think I'm crying on my own, well I ain't."
He continues to sing, "And I didn't wanna write a song cause I didn't want anyone thinking I still care/I don't but, you still hit my phone up/And baby I be movin' on and I think you should be somethin'/I don't wanna hold back, maybe you should know that/My mama don't like you and she likes everyone/And I never like to admit that I was wrong/And I've been so caught up in my job, didn't see what's going on/But now I know, I'm better sleeping on my own.
But Dee Locket wrote for Vulture that Justin Bieber's new song couldn't be a diss towards Selena Gomez.
"Does Selena need to use Bieber's name to get into a club? And wasn't she the one who reportedly reunited Justin and his mom, which means Mama Biebs couldn't really have disliked her that much?" the article noted.
"Who knows. Either way, if Bieber holds out hope of getting back together with Selena at some point (as he just told Ellen), maybe he shouldn't drag her in one (or more) of his songs."
Hollywood Life also agreed that Justin Bieber's new song is not a shade on Selena Gomez.
"Considering he told Ellen DeGeneres on Ellen that he wrote three love songs about Selena Gomez for Purpose, we're thinking it can't possibly be her," it said.
