Game developer Bethesda Softworks has revealed that more than 12 million copies of its new postapocalypse role-playing game "Fallout 4" were shipped to retailers on day one itself.

Bethesda announced that the blockbuster game shipped 12 million units worldwide representing more than $750 million in sales, to meet launch day demand. "Fallout 4" was launched on November 10 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Fallout 4's launch day sales were the largest of any game released this year. However, it is to be noted that the figure doesn't represent the total number purchased by consumers but sell-in to retailers.

According to various retail figures, "Fallout 4" was also the most pre-ordered game this year, and the Pip-Boy Edition was the fastest-selling collector's edition of any game in history at retail stores, reported VentureBeat.

As per the information shared by the company, digital edition sales of the action gaming title also broke all the records. On digital game store Steam, "Fallout 4" leapt to number one spot and set a record with more than 470,000 people playing it at the same time, according to IBTimes.

"Fallout Pip-Boy" also topped the charts on the iOS App Store. Going by a Twitch report, "Fallout 4" has also set the record as the 'most viewed game launch' of all the games launched in 2015.

"We're extremely proud of Todd Howard, Game Director at Bethesda Game Studios, and his experienced team of developers for their talent and dedication in creating this extraordinary game," said Vlatko Andonov, President of Bethesda Softworks, reported GearNuke.

"Fallout 4 is a masterpiece in game development and storytelling, providing fans hundreds of hours of fun as they explore and are challenged by this fascinating, beautifully crafted world."

"A huge thanks to our fans that've made this all possible. After four years of development, it's not complete until our fans get to play it and make it their own. We can't wait to hear about their adventures," said Todd Howard, Fallout 4 Game Director.
