The rumors about the "Winds of Winter" release date have been intensifying of late, after various accounts from seemingly credible sources have claimed that it's going to be announced sooner than later.

But fans should take heed and follow George R. R. Martin's advice: don't be gullible.

Back in July, the author cautioned a fan who asked about the "Son of Kong" on his blog and George R. R. Martin said, "Never believe rumors. I've said that a thousand times."

The author has repeatedly said that if the release date for "Winds of Winter" is ready, he's going to announce it on his blog first before any other interview.

The author has told Entertainment Weekly that he's trying to set for himself a target for the "Winds of Winter" release date and hopefully, it should be prior to the airing of the "Game of Thrones" season 6 in April or May next year.

This, as events in "Game of Thrones" are threatening to surpass the events in the novels.

George R. R. Martin said there was a point in time when he was worried about the pace of the show and it's impact on the release date of "Winds of Winter."

"They're writing 60-page scripts, I'm writing 1,500-page novels. So who the hell knows?" he said. "I'm just going to tell my story, and they're telling their story and adapting my books, and we shall see."

"Then I said, to hell with that," he said. "Worrying about it isn't going to change it one way or another. I still sit down at the typewriter, and I have to write the next scene and the next sentence ... I'm just going to tell my story, and they're telling their story and adapting my books, and we shall see."

Multiple reports, however, claimed that the "Winds of Winter" release date may be announced soon because the publishing houses in Spain and Poland expect the draft to be delivered before the end of the year.
