Blake Shelton skipped the AMAs and didn't watch Gwen Stefani perform live on stage, which prompted speculations that the two had a falling out.
However, all indications point to Miranda Lambert's ex-husband just avoiding the publicity that was sure to generate as the tabloids would feast on his presence at the AMAs.
According to Hollywood Life, Blake Shelton purposely skipped the AMAs so Gwen Stefani can shine while performing "Used To Love You."
"Blake wanted Gwen to have her moment - have her song be sung without the AMAs cameras checking for his reaction every two seconds," the source said. "It wasn't that type of song and wasn't that type of night."
The insider continued, "He was very proud of her, but wanted it to be her moment and didn't wan to ruin it in any way. And she was very appreciative that he chose to do that - Gwen respects him even more after he showed that he isn't selfish and just looking for his own screen time."
In fact, Blake Shelton was very impressed by the AMAs perfomance of girlfriend Gwen Stefani that he retweeted a comment by a fan who said, "I thought her performance was the best of show fabulous."
"The Voice" coach could only say, "Agreed."
But then the comments section was flooded with some of his followers who slammed Blake Shelton for divorcing Miranda Lambert and replacing her with Gwen Stefani.
One wrote, "you should really be embarrassed!!!! Miranda is a way better singer & songwriter then Gwen could ever be!"
"My opinion only !!! Blake really downgraded!!!" another said.
And there are those who didn't think that Gwen Stefani's performance at the AMAs was stellar.
"Blake, you are biased by love, lol," one wrote.
Another fan weighed in, "Nothing special about her performance, below Parr!! Hope she coaches better than she performed. Boring performance."
Blake Shelton and girlfriend Gwen Stefani went public with their romance during the CMAs earlier this year, following their divorce from their respective spouses, Miranda Lambert and Gavin Rossdale, respectively.
