Samsung Gear S2 In South Korea Receives Software Big Update; $50 Off At Best Buy

Though not available in all markets, the Samsung Gear S2 now starts to receive software updates. On Monday in South Korea, the wearable received a big firmware update that brings new features, reported SamMobile.

Samsung introduced the Gear S2 two months earlier, a great entry to the smartwatch market. Phandroid enumerated some of the expected changes that come along with build number R732XXU2BOKF which official changelog was not posted but courtesy of XDA member "supersoulfly," the new features are made known.

Among the added apps are World Clock, Navigation app, Starbucks and Flipboard News Briefing. There are also screen time options of 15 seconds, 30 seconds, one minute or five minutes. An "Add Widgets" label is added in the plus symbol to the actions are easier to understand. An auto open apps feature is added and when activated, the apps automatically open once the user stops the bezel from rotating on an icon.

The Vibrate When Disconnected under Connection settings when active, exactly does what its feature description says. There is a Notification Indicator, a tiny orange circle which appears when notifications are not set to wake the screen up. When the user double taps on a notification, the text grows bigger so he can read the information easily. This is the Larger Notification Text feature. When one swipes up from a notification, a symbol of a trash can will appear.

There is a new "Add Template" option to customize the watchface then save it as a template. The option is found in the watchface menu when scrolling right.

The wearable works with Android devices that run at least version 4.4 with new features and lots of apps, plus a distinctive rotating bezel to control some user interface elements onscreen. Samsung's new wearable is available in two models - standard and classic. The former has more modern styling while the latter comes with more traditional tastes.

Samsung Gear S2 is now selling at Best Buy and Amazon. Best Buy offers it at $250, which is a $50 off the regular price.
