Former pro-wrestler Dwayne Johnson aka 'The Rock' was generous enough to donate USD 1500 to help a sick dog named after him.

According to a post on a GoFundMe page set up for the stricken dog's medical bills, the four-month-old dog was found at the North Central Shelter with a large metal wire wrapped around the bottom portion of his mouth.

The shelter found that the dog had a grade 6 heart murmur that required a USD 4,500 surgery, reported TMZ.

Actress Michelle Trachtenberg, who has been helping to raise funds needed for the dog's surgery via GoFundMe.com, brought the pup to Johnson's attention on Monday by tweeting a link to the Furious 7 star.

"This puppy named after @TheRock was tortured, abandoned!," Trachtenberg wrote. "He needs our help for life saving surgery."

When Johnson got to know about the puppy's condition on social media, he offered to help, reported Daily Mail.

"This is rough to read about," Dwayne wrote in response to Michelle's tweet.

"Poor lil' pup abandoned w/ (with) a wire wrapped around his mouth. I'll help. Stay strong pup."

Keeping his promise, Dwayne donated $1,500 to the dog's GoFundMe page in order to help meet the $5,000 goal.

"Knowing that 'The Rock' has got Dwayne the puppy's back, we are confident he will be a fighter and make it through this," the shelter wrote thanking the action star. "Thank you all for your generous donations- thanks to you we have met our goal."

Trachtenberg also thanked Johnson for his generosity.

"Thank you so much for your support @TheRock,"the actress wrote. "We are going to save this little fighter's life!"

The GoFundMe goal has luckily reached the goal for the surgery, and has assured that any extra funds would go toward helping other unfortunate dogs, reported ET Online.

The action star's love for dogs is no secret. Dwayen had earlier adopted two French Bulldogs, Brutus and Hobbs. Brutus accidentally almost sank to the bottom of a pool before the wrestler dove in, fully clothed, to rescue the dog.

Brutus survived that accident, but unfortunately, the dog died later that month after eating a poisonous mushroom.
