Did "The Master's Sun" get a happy ending? If you have not already seen the finale, you may be pleased to learn that the added episode gave the Hong Sisters a chance to neatly wrap up the stories of several characters.

Poor tortured Tae Gong Sil, played by Gong Hyo Jin, finds her heart's desire and no one is left pining for a love they can't have. And that's all we're going to say here since every episode of this fun horror romcom deserves to be seen.

The show not only resolved on a happy note but it also delivered happy ratings news.

According to Nielsen Korea, the final episode scored 21.8 percent. That was a 2.1 percent jump from the previous episode.

Why did this series resonate so well with viewers? Its success can be attributed to the same basic reasons that most dramas succeed: great writing, a great cast and believable chemistry.

Since it was a Hong Sisters drama, the writing was sure to be above average. The Hong Sisters, who are responsible for hit kdramas such as "My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho," "The Greatest Love" and "You're Beautiful" also came up with the idea for an entirely new genre, the horror rom com, and this drama alternately scared and delighted viewers.

"The Master's Sun" had a great cast and they really gave their all. So Ji Sub's wacky hand gestures made his character into something more than the standard standoffish chaebol. The way he gestured for Gong Hyo Jin's character to "go away" made it seem like he was brushing off a fly. He had a gesture for almost every emotion. And that fit in perfectly with the running theme throughout the show, how reassuring it was for Gong Hyo Jin to touch him.

Gong Hyo Jin perfectly portrayed the terrified Tae Gong Sil. Her poking and patting So Ji Sub as if he were a breathing teddy bear was really funny too. It was easy to see that on occasion he had to fight hard to keep from laughing. They never worked together before "The Master's Sun," but shortly after they started filming, he praised her comedic skills.

"Since we've worked together, I now know that she's the greatest actress there is for a romantic comedy," said So Ji Sub. "She can pull off anything and she helps me act well too."

And that leads to the next ingredient for a successful kdrama: the chemistry.

As with any good kdrama, where you root for the leading couple, viewers can't help but hope those two actors will date in real life. They were said to be inseparable onscreen and off.

"I never shipped for a couple as much as I shipped for these two," said one netizen.

But while we're waiting for that to happen, we could always watch a few of those episodes again.

What did you think of this drama? Was it one of your favorites? Did you rate it one of the year's best? Let us know.
