Michelle Rodriguez's ex-girlfriend Cara Delevingne is currently under fire over an alleged copyright infringement issue when she endorsed a statement shirt owned by a designer.
The 23-year-old British supermodel and "Paper Towns" cast member recently posted an Instagram snapshot with her American girlfriend St. Vincent while they were wearing shirts that read, "The Future is Female."
Michelle Rodriguez's ex-girlfriend, who is a self-confessed feminist and bisexual, captioned her Instagram photo with, "A lot of you have been asking for one of these - so I decided to put them up for sale, with the proceeds going to Girl Up!"
The model is helping in raising money to support the United Nations-backed charity Girl Up's online retailing shop.
According to Scout, the slogan was first seen in a shirt worn by folk musician Alix Dobkin in 1975. The design was just reproduced with permission this year by Los Angeles-based retailer Otherwild. The company has incorporated the slogan to their latest venture in support of another charity.
The people behind Otherwild said that Cara Delevingne's post steps on the company's intellectual property rights, saying that they are also selling the same version for another women's charity.
Rachel Berks, Otherwild designer, said that they are selling the same statement shirt for Planned Parenthood (PP).
The designer said in a statement posted on an Instagram page, "Otherwild's redesign and reissue of the FIF (Future Is Female) tees and buttons is protected under (U.S.) copyright law, which mandates that any reproduction of an existing known public work must be altered at least 20 (per cent) from the original."
"If model/actress Cara Delevingne wanted to sell my line, she would need to wholesale them from Otherwild, and because we donate 25 (per cent) of our line's proceeds to Planned Parenthood, Delevingne's ethical practice would benefit not only our woman-owned small business but would also serve as a significant donation to PP," she added.
The designer also said that Michelle Rodriguez's ex-girlfriend Cara Delevingne's choice to lift and manufacture Otherwild's design is "indefensible."
"Her actions ironically counter the very message of the slogan 'The Future Is Female'" she concluded.
OK! Magazine said that the "Pan" cast member has yet to air her side following the claims of Otherwild.
