After his hiatus following the conclusion of "The Mentalist," actor Simon Baker is back to work again as he almost completes the cast for his new movie, "Breath."

Simon Baker will direct "Breath," which is about two surfers who is caught in the drama of an older surfer and his wife. The actor will also play the part of the older surfer named Sando.

"For almost a year we've been searching for the boys," he told Sydney Morning Herald. "We're close. I'm down to a handful of kids."

He continued, "I've basically speed-dated most of the Australian film industry trying to get the right people to make this film together. One thing I do notice is there's just a passion for people to tell stories in the format of filmmaking."

"The Mentalist" star said that shooting "Breath" would be a lot challenging than the TV series.

"Shooting outside, you're totally at the mercy of the weather anyway but with surfing you also have the swell, the wind direction, the light ... It's a nightmare," Simon Baker explained.

More than making "Breath," Simon Baker is also offering a lending hand to make Tropfest, the world's largest short-film festival, a reality in Sydney.

Festival creator John Polson credited "The Mentalist" actor Simon Baker into immediately volunteering his help to revive Tropfest which is in danger of being cancelled because of mismanagement.

"He was the first guy within two minutes of the announcement to call me and say 'Mate, what happened, what can I do' and I said 'I really don't know,'" he said . "At that point I thought I was dead in the water. This is what you could do, Simon, I really appreciate it."

Simon Baker told SMH that he attended the second Tropfest festival and realized that it was a good breeding ground to find promising filmmakers.

Since ending "The Mentalist," Simon Baker again relocated his family away from Hollywood and back to his old stomping grounds in Sydney.
