BBC has dropped the trailer for "Sherlock" special titled "The Abominable Bride," and it shows Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman garbed in Victorian-era clothes.

The special, with the running time of 90 minutes, is set in 1890s in London. Aside from Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, "Sherlock" will also star Rupert Graves and Inspector Lestrade, Amanda Abbington as Mary Morstan, and Una Stubbs as Mrs. Hudson.

"It's the special diehard 'Sherlock' fans have been waiting for. In 'Sherlock: The Abominable Bride,' we find Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) not in the contemporary setting "Sherlock" fans have become accustomed to, but in Victoria-era London," said Oregon Live.

It added, "The 1800s are, of course, natural habitat for the famed consulting detective, whose cases, as imagined by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, took place in the late 1880s and early 1900s."

MTV, meanwhile, said that the "Sherlock" special will delve into the supernatural, one that deals with an apparent ghost, at least based on the trailer.

"While we'd basically watch anything involving our OTP of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman gallivanting through 1895 London, the super creepy plot has us doubly intrigued," the article said. "Holmes and Watson appear to be up against a threat that they can't quite explain: Thomas Ricoletti's recently-deceased wife is somehow walking the streets seeking revenge."

The "Sherlock" special trailer opens with Benedict Cumberbatch watching out at the window as he says, "The stage is set, the curtain rises, we are ready to begin ..."

Below is the official synopsis of "The Abominable Bride":

Sherlock - The Abominable Bride: Dr John Watson, meet Mr Sherlock Holmes. We've been here before - but what if this wasn't the modern day but the late Victorian period? What if the world's most famous consulting detective and his best friend lived in a Baker Street of steam trains, hansom cabs, top hats and frock-coats? Welcome to 'Sherlock' in 1895! Some things, though, remain reassuringly the same. Friendship, adventure and especially, MURDER... Why is Thomas Ricoletti a little surprised to see his wife dressed in her old wedding gown? Because, just a few hours before, she took her own life... Mrs Ricoletti's ghost now appears to be prowling the streets with an unslakeable thirst for revenge. From fog-shrouded Limehouse to the bowels of a ruined church, Holmes, Watson and their friends must use all their cunning to combat an enemy seemingly from beyond the grave and the final, shocking truth about... the Abominable Bride!

"Sherlock: The Abominable Bride," starring Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman, will air on Jan. 1 on PBS.
