The new or fourth-generation Apple TV is now designed to run applications based on iOS. Now, its maker rolls out a new feature in the store of apps, putting labels on apps so one will know which one works in the set-top box, a report on iMore said.
The listing of the app now on the iOS App Store "Apple TV: Yes," indicating that the app runs on the TV. Recently, Apple released a new version of the TV's platform, the tvOS 9.1, bringing support for Siri in Apple Music among other new features.
9to5Mac observed that the App Store listing feature is now correctly propagated sans the codename identifier. Earlier, it had labels that indicated if the app is universal or runs on tvOS and was meant for internal purposes only.
Apple continuously adds features for the tvOS experience and has added in the app library more Categories and Top Charts. Eddy Cue announced that the new Apple TV will have 2,000 apps. This week, Apple released tvOS 9.1, bringing support for the iPad, iPhone and Apple TV Remote App so that users of the TV can use either the iPhone or the iPad as the TV's control pad.
In fact, Forbes said its number of apps is already approaching 3,000 though many of the apps are just new to tvOS and have been already seen elsewhere.
Apple TV app Kitchen Stories is among the favorites as the free cooking app helps anyone improve their cooking skills with "how to" guides and new recipes daily. Forbes considers it tvOS' App of the Year while the Game App of the Year is "Rayman Adventures."
Other favorites in random order are booking app AirBnB, video streaming app Hopster, Netflix, Touchpress where classical music is reimagined and exercise app Zova, as well as, Starwalk Kids, Houzz Interior Design Ideas, TripAdvisor, Sago Mini Fairy Tales and TED.
Other best apps in the Games Department are: "Beat Sports," "Badland," "Octodad: Dadliest Catch," "Crossy Road - Endless Arcade Hopper," "Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas," "Altos Adventure," "Transistor," "Bean Dreams," "Lumino City" and "Beneath The Lighthouse."
