Movie "The Face Reader" has boomed as the most popular movie of the second half of 2013 in Korea. "The Face Reader" garnered 4,000,000 audiences in just 12 days after its release.

Kim Dong Hyuk movie scriptwriter met in a cafe in Sangchungdong, Seoul, last week, a few weeks after the widespread success of the movie.

Kim majored in movie production in France and wrote the scenario for "The Face Reader" in 2008, finishing it in 2013. The scenario won the best scenario award in Korean Movie Scenario contest in 2010.

Kim Dong Hyuk said, "The idea of 'face reading' as a tool to predict the future came to me as a Chosun (old korean) version of 'The Minority Report'." Kim also added, "It's common in present politics to get rid of the rivarlies, but I thought it'd make a great story to connect the politics to face reading."

The scenario for the movie was inspired when Kim Dong Hyuk ran into a book about face reading in Chinese medicine, which analyzed, in addition to the face, the voice, posture, and all parts of the body. Kim imagined a person with great difficulty would be able to read other people's faces well, and created a character who lives a miserable life due to a crime his ancestor had committed.

"The Face Reader" was released in September 11, 2013, and was recently nominated for the Grand Bell Award.
