As millions of viewers know, Steve Harvey read the name wrong and declared Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez the Miss Universe winner, when the card clearly said that Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of Miss Philippines won.

One of the wittier tweets suggested that Steve Harvey should host the Oscars so that perhaps, Leonardo DiCaprio can win the award as well.

User Langston Taylor had a funny take on "Family Feud" as he wrote, "WE ASKED ONE HUNDRED AMERICANS WHAT'S THE WORST THING YOU COULD POSSIBLY DO AT A BEAUTY PAGEANT."

Even John Legend's wife, Chrissy Teigen, weighed in on the Miss Universe controversy as she tweeted, "I will say whatever a TelePrompTer wants me to, even if my surroundings and cards say otherwise. Because I am afraid, of robots."

Meanwhile, Steve Harvey issued an apology over the Miss Universe controversy.

In a series of tweets, comedian Steve Harvey wrote, "I'd like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible."

"Secondly, I'd like to apologize to the viewers at that I disappointed as well. Again it was an honest mistake ... I don't want to take away from this amazing night and pageant. As well as the wonderful contestants. They were all amazing."

But Steve Harvey caused another controversy when during his initial apology, he misspelled Miss Philippines into Miss Philippians. He later erased the tweet.

Nevertheless, Steve Harvey's Twitter account was filled with supporters as well in the wake of the Miss Universe controversy.

"Steve you did an outstanding job Brother. Truly honest mistake, but you owned the moment. That is Integrity at its finest," one fan wrote.

Another said, "Honestly these pageants are usually boring as hell. Thanks for making it interesting and being man enough to apologize."

"It's okay bud... It happens! It just sucks when it happens during the time when what you say matters the most," another of Steve Harvey's fans said.
