Demi Lovato got a taste of Simon Cowell’s brutal honesty when the “X Factor USA” judge scolded the “Heart Attack” singer in public on the reality show. The incident occurred when Demi asked contestants, Alex and Sierra of their future plans and how will they keep their singing career should they decide to break-up in the future.
True to her promise before Season 3 kicked off on Sept. 11-12, Demi has indeed been showing her own brand of notoriety and straightforward remarks.
'You guys are probably one of my favourite acts in this whole competition,' said Demi, according to the Daily Mail. 'Now here comes my tough love. I hate to be this person but from a business perspective you have to ask, “What would happen if you ever broke up?”’
But everyone was surprised to hear Simon Cowell not taking a back seat and watch Demi raised cynicism on the duo’s romantic relationship after hearing them perform the stripped down version of “You’re The One That I Want,” a soundtrack from 90s film, “Grease.”
The British mogul, who would soon be a dad to his son, Tad, sounded more optimistic than Demi when he hushed the singer, noting that he would not have asked the question.
"It was actually a stupid question. They're not going to breakup. Silly, silly, silly question. You don't have to ask that,” Simon was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
Alex and Sierra fall under “Groups” category, mentored by Simon in “The X Factor USA’s four chair challenge. And it will not be such a big surprise that he decided to keep the two under his wing since he had liked the couple from day one.
"There's no one in the market like you. People are really going to fall in love with you two. I could think of nothing better than working with you two,” Simon said as he came to the rescue for the lovebirds.
Meanwhile, despite the public banter the judges have had early on the show, Demi insisted that she is not “daunted” by the former “American Idol” judge.
A separate report by the Times of India quoted Demi as saying that she is not afraid of Simon even when she finds herself not on the same page as the 54-year old first-time dad and the latter ended up coming too strong in disagreement.
"I don't really know for sure and I don't really care if he does because I'm going to do it anyway and that's what he gets for hiring a -- at the time a 19-year-old -- to be alongside him on the judges table,” Demi said, according to the Times of India.
Demi is one of the three female judges who sit with Simon on the panel of “The X Factor USA.” She returns this season after the media mogul asked the Latina singer to return as mentor for Season 3.
“The X Factor USA” airs Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8pm PT.
