Tom Hardy is set to ditch his “Dark Knight Rises” costume and will soon be fitting new ones, this time of a “Rocketman” after landing the high profile role as Elton John in the Michael Gracey musical biopic.
Officials from the Rocket Pictures, the production company to produce the musical film, confirmed that Hardy has been chosen to play Sir Elton John’s character and agreed to work for the lead role. Rocket Pictures is owned by Sir Elton John.
All is set for the musical biopic. It will be directed by Michael Gracey. The script was written by Lee Hall, the same screen writer behind “Billy Elliot.” The Yellow Brick singer will be working first hand in the film. Sir Elton will be working as Executive Producer in the upcoming bio-film.
The production company, through Rocket Pictures CEO, Steve Hamilton Shaw expressed confidence that Hardy is the perfect man for the job.
"Tom is a stellar talent who will add extraordinary depth and nuance in bringing Elton's story to life," Shaw was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.
The producers of the film from Focus Features, through its CEO, Peter Schelessel, echoed Shaw’s confidence in Hardy.
Schelessel is "confident that Tom will embody the physicality and spirit of Sir Elton. This, in conjunction with the creative team led by Michael and Rocket Pictures, will provide the foundation for something that will be a unique cinematic event."
The film, which is said to be "larger-than-life movie musical spectacle that tells the story of a child prodigy turned music legend," will see some of Sir Elton John’s collection and the legendary singer is expected to record some of his hit songs for the film.
