Celine Dion is the latest celebrity that was a victim of a death hoax in the Internet world as rumors spread of her alleged death on Twitter during the weekend, Examiner reported.
It was reported that the 45-year-old singer had been killed in a car accident or a plane accident. This news stemmed out from two Facebook Apps that contained false CNN and Fox News stories that Dion had died, News Max reported.
"Hollywood Breaking News - R.I.P Celine Dion At about 11 a.m. ET on Sunday, Celine Dion died in a plane crash," the fake CNN story read. "The culprit for the story is Global Associated, aka Mediafetcher. 'Celine Dion presumed dead in private plane crash', Global claims that Celine died today at 'Denver Peak-Regional Airport."
The fake Fox News story reported a different cause of death: "Investigators have told reporters that Celine Dion lost control while driving a friend's vehicle on Interstate 80 and rolled the vehicle several times killing her instantly. The vehicle was believed to have been traveling at approximately 95 miles per hour in a 55mph zone at the time of the accident."
Many people didn't believe the reports and tweeted their doubts. A Twitter user even asked: "So is Celine Dion dead or alive?"
Dion is alive and is scheduled to appear on NBC's Today show this morning, Oct. 28, to perform two songs.
