Lou Reed died at the age of 71 on Sunday, Oct. 27, but the cause of death is still unknown, Rolling Stone reported.
Reed was a founding member of The Velvet Underground. He was a vital part of New York's thriving avant-garde art and music scene in the 1960s, People reported.
He split from the group in 1970 then continued with a solo career in music. He released several albums that included Lou Reed, Berlin, Metal Machine Music, Sally Can't Dance and Coney Island Baby.
In an interview in 1987 with Rolling Stone, "All through this, I've always thought that if you thought of all of it as a book then you have the Great American Novel, every record as a chapter. They're all in chronological order. You take the whole thing, stack it and listen to it in order, there's my Great American Novel."
