R.I.P. Lou Reed: Music Stars Pay Tribute to “Velvet Underground” Rock Icon (Photo/Video)

New York based rock musician, Lou Reed died at Southampton, NY Sunday, Oct. 27. He was 71. Music stars pay tribute to the Velvet Underground musician.

Reed died of complications following his liver transplant five months ago, according to the singer-songwriter agent, Andrew Wylie.

Stars pay tribute to the “Walk on the Wild Side,” singer. Tribute also flood social media following the death of one of Hollywood’s greatest music artists.

David Bowie took to his Facebook page and expressed sadness of Reed’s death, he calls a “master.”

"R.I.P. LOU REED. It is with great sadness that we report the death of Lou Reed who died today aged 71. (March 2, 1942 – October 27, 2013). David Bowie said of his old friend: 'He was a master,” Bowie said, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

The Who posted on its official Twitter page paying tribute to one of Reed’s hit songs: "R.I.P. Lou Reed. Walk on the peaceful side.”

Frank Black and members of Pixies band calls him a “legend” ant posted: "R.I.P. LOU REED .... A LEGEND."

Weezer, an American rock band, believes Reed was a “big influence” in the music industry and tweeted: "R.I.P Lou Reed - VU (Velvet Underground) was a big influence when weezer was being formed, and (producer) Ric Ocasek told us cool stories of his friendship with him."

Music historian, Martin Lewis described Reed as a “remarkable musician and a humanitarian,” according to Yahoo 7 News.

"Lou Reed was an exceptional pioneering musician who inspired both his contemporaries and those who followed after him,” Lewis began as he opens up about Reed, before adding, “"He was a remarkable musician and humanitarian. He will be greatly missed by everyone - including the human rights movement that he was passionate in supporting."

Yahoo 7 News enumerated more stars who took to Twitter and marked the day expressing great loss with the death of Lou Reed. These included Justin Timberlake, British rocker Carl Barat, Kings of Leon star Nathan Followill, Ryan Adams, Nile Rodgers, The Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney, Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo, and former My Chemical Romance star Gerard Way.
