The zombie genre in Korean films is now on the rise again after the success of "Train To Busan." This year, two Korean zombie thrillers hit the theaters again.
While Korean dramas are hitting it big, just like "Crash Landing On You" and "It's Okay To Not Be Okay," the audience is also up for the sequel of "Train to Busan," which is "Peninsula." And while you're still into that hype of the all-blood-lust film, you might want to consider these other five Korean zombie movies that will keep you awake the whole night.
#ALIVE
This movie was initially an American script by screenwriter Matt Naylor. "#ALIVE" was adapted for the Korean audience, alongside director Cho Il-Hyung. It became the top grosser on the day it was released in the South Korean box office. Its story revolves around a zombie outbreak, and a few survivors are stranded in an apartment building, trying to escape and live life while surrounded by zombies. The catch is that there is zero phone reception.
Rampant
This one's movie set during the latter half of Korea's Joseon Dynasty. It tackles a clash between the exiled Prince Lee (Hyun Bin) and the minister of war, Kim Ja Joon (Jang Dong Gun). The kingdom was disrupted by an outbreak, caused by the shipment of the European traders.
Seoul Station
This is an animated feature by director Yeon Sang Ho. It tackles a man looking for his runaway daughter in the middle of a place where the government decided to close all borders due to a zombie attack. This movie is a prequel to "Train To Busan" with a few twists and turns.
The Odd Family: Zombie On Sale
The above list is more on bloodthirst or heavy. This film, on the other hand, is on a lighter side for people to laugh and shout while watching. A pharmaceutical company's illegal experiments created a zombie. As the zombie wanders around, just in the small rural town finds it and is taken in by the Park Family. The family decided to earn some money out of this surprising twist.
Doomsday Book
This one is an anthology movie directed by Yim Pil Sung. It tells three stories of the world ending because of humans' wrongdoings. It's a film about a robot attaining enlightenment. Here comes a giant asteroid that is hurtling towards the world and a zombie rampage. The movie "Doomsday Book" won the top prize at the 2012 Fantasia Festival.
