South Korea's film industry is back to life after the pandemic hit the nation.
The zombie genre movies recently reopened and were flocked by a number of viewers, signaling that business is slowly rising back. Amid the government's implementation of strict health and safety protocols for everyone, a surprisingly significant rise of moviegoers came to the cinemas.
While Korean films, such as "Train To Busan 2: Peninsula," are coming to the U.S. this August and now showing in Canada, one of the most awaited movies of the year is coming to South Korea.
The live-animated film from Disney "Mulan" is coming to the big screen this September. The movie's local distributor Walt Disney Co. Korea confirmed the upcoming local release is ready, although the organizer did not confirm the specific date of release.
In addition, the film is only available in cinemas for South Korea, following Walt Disney's cancelation of the theatrical release of "Mulan" in the U.S. and other selected countries.
The move is made after further consideration of the company, while the pandemic is still a threat to human lives and may have a big impact when crowds are gathered during the reopening. They have decided to put the film on the company's Disney Plus streaming platform.
"Mulan" has been postponed several times this year due to the concern of ongoing COVID-19. The difference this time is that Disney's service platform is not yet available in South Korea.
Subscribers of the said platform will pay an additional amount for the movie, which will air on September 4. Therefore, the time to release in cinema is by far the best option, especially for the fans waiting for the movie.
The live-action version features Chinese actress Liu Yifei as the warrior Hua Mulan of the Northern and Southern dynasties period (386-581 AD). Among other actors in the movie are Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Jason Scott Lee, and many more.
