Kwon Sang Woo has turned down an offer to appear on the MBC variety show "Daddy, Where Are You Going?" which features celebrity dads and their kids traveling around the country. He's always happy to spend time with his son but prefers not to parent in public.
The actor, who currently stars in the drama "Medical Top Team," was recently invited to appear on the show's second season with his young son Luke. The producers noticed the adorable way he interacted with his young son and thought they would make a great addition to the show. But Kwon Sang Woo turned them down.
"It's true he has received an offer from "Dad Where Are You Going?" said a representative from his agency. "He receives a lot of family commercial offers too, but he turns down most of them"
The actor gave two reasons for declining the invitation. First, he doesn't want Luke to get that much public exposure. He prefers to raise Luke, whose nickname is "Rookie" or "Ruk Hee" very quietly. He would rather take his four-year-old son out for a quiet walk or for a fun visit to the amusement park. Sometimes Sang Woo's wife and Luke's mom, actress Son Tae Young accompanies them on these outings.
"We heard that 'Daddy, Where Are You Going?' expressed interest in adding him to the cast, but he is not comfortable with the idea of joining a variety show," said his agency. "We realize that their intentions are good, but the child is still young so we have to think about this carefully before making a decision."
Also, the actor prefers to focus on acting in dramas and movies.
"He wants to do them more than he wants to do variety shows," said his agency. "He's very busy filming the drama 'Medical Top Team' and he wants to concentrate on his acting career."
He would have made a great addition to the show as its obvious how much he and his son love each other. Son Tae Young has spoken publicly about her son's love for his father.
"Luke shows only unending love for his dad," she said, laughing. "When I asked him who is cooler between his father and the actor Jo In Sung, he chose his father without hesitation."
Does that mean his mother let him watch both of them when they appeared in the dueling dramas earlier this year, with Kwon Sang Woo in "Queen of Ambition" and Jo In Sung in "That Winter the Wind Blows?" Maybe she was joking.
However, the former Miss Korea went on to say that the little boy also likes his father more than his mother.
'When he watches my drama, "You're The Best Lee Soon Shin," he looks bored," she said. "But when he watches his dad in some fancy action scenes, he loves it."
