During a press conference held in Seoul on Tuesday, November 3, the K-pop idol and actress expressed that she initially felt hesitant to play this role. However, after reading the script, she changed her mind and decided to take it. The celebrity added that the character of Toe-il is confident and she believes in her abilities. For Krystal, Toe-il is considered as a representation of women nowadays. She is relatable and beautiful. Krystal shared that the movie was filmed during the summer season, so it was easy for her to carry a fake pregnant belly, and she had so much fun while filming.
'More Than Family' is a film that focuses on the journey of Toe-il (Krystal Jung), who got pregnant by Ho-hoon (Shin Jae-hwi), a student she has been tutoring. They planned to get married even though Ho-hoon is younger than her. While preparing for the wedding, Toe-il decided to look for her birth father, who left her and her mother 15 years ago. The struggle for her is, she doesn't have much memory about her father, not even his face or his first name.
The upcoming film's director Choi Ha Na shared that she was sure that Krystal would do a great job playing her role as Toe-il after witnessing her amazing portrayal in the MBC sitcom High Kick 3. However, the director did have doubts because she had a strong impression of the actress as a K-pop girl band member, Krystal. But after their first meeting, the director felt assured and confident that the celebrity could play Toe-il's character.
The comedy film 'More Than Family' is also a debut feature for its director Choi Ha Na. The director shared that she wanted to write a story about families to change some of the discriminations that exist in South Korean society.
The director continued sharing her point of view, stating that nowadays, people still think that families with divorced parents are losers. However, she wants to change that mindset and wants people to see those families are also happy. Those families acknowledged that there is something wrong with their relationship and decided to do something about it.
Lastly, the director shared that we all know that in a conventional Korean family, it is hard for parents to accept Toe-il's decision to have and raise a child at her young age; however, through the acceptance of Ho-hoon's family as they welcome Toe-il's decision, it makes the story different from the typical Korean families.
'More Than Family' is scheduled to be released in cinemas in South Korea on Thursday, Nov 12.
