Soo Ae to Possibly Star in New JTBC Drama ‘Gong Jak City’

For Soo Ae avid fans, this is good news! Your favorite actress has been offered to star as the lead role in the mystery drama "Gong Jak City."

JTBC will soon air a new drama titled "Gong Jak City," and it will tell the story about the intertwined relationships of characters with different ambitions and desires in a society that hides its gloomy side. The drama will center its story on two lead female characters. One of which was offered to actress Soo Ae. She is said to play the character of Yoon Jae Hee.

Regarding the rumors circulating, a source from Studio Santa Claus Entertainment, Soo Ae's agency, announced on Dec. 2 that the actress did receive a casting offer from the JTBC new drama.

"Gong Jak City" will be helmed by director Jeon Chang Geun who previously worked with hit shows such as "The Package" and "Mystic Pop-Up Bar."

If Soo Ae decides to accept this project, this will be her first TV drama since her last show "Sweet Stranger and Me." The actress had previously been offered to star in the drama "Now, We Are Breaking Up." However, she was unable to join the cast due to some issues with her schedule.

South Korean actress Park Soo Ae was born on September 16, 1979. The 41-year-old actress had her break out role in A Family (2004). Following this, she became widely recognized as the leading actress in films, notably in Sunny (2008) and Midnight FM (2010). Soo Ae also starred in famous television melodramas Emperor of the Sea (2004), A Thousand Days' Promise (2011), Queen of Ambition (2013), and Mask (2015). In 2016, she made her romantic comedy-drama comeback in KBS2's Sweet Stranger and Me.

In case you didn't know, Soo Ae almost became a K-pop idol member. A record agent initially scouted her on the street in the trendy Apgujeong area. Then, Soo Ae spent six months practicing and rehearsing but sad to say, she had no album to put out. The actress once shared in an interview that she didn't sing well but the six long months she had spent with the team were quite fun and memorable. She also shared that she was so lucky to transition into acting eventually.

Fast forward to September 2013, Soo Ae left her long-time agency Star J Entertainment that handled her for 12 years, and joined Management Soop. But then in January 2015, she returned to Star J Entertainment.

Soo Ae next played dual roles in Mask, through this drama she was able to take home the Best Actress award at the 28th Grimae Award, an honorable award chosen by directors in every broadcasting station in Korea. Then Nine years after her last romantic comedy drama Two Outs in the Ninth Inning, the actress starred in KBS2's romantic-comedy Sweet Stranger and Me in 2016. Her last project was the movie High Society in 2018. Then in 2019, she signed with new agency Huayi Brothers.
