SBS Drama ‘Taxi Driver’ Receives Positive Viewership Rating during its Premiere

"Taxi Driver" is off to a good start following its debut last April 9.

According to a report, Nielsen Korea cited that the newly released SBS drama received a positive viewership rating of 8.7 percent nationwide and 10.7 percent for its two parts.

On the other hand, its contender, JTBC's psychological thriller drama "Beyond Evil" slightly climbs up, garnering 5.4 percent ahead of its season finale.

"Taxi Driver" Episode 1

Directed by Park Joon-Woo and based on a popular webtoon of the same name, "Taxi Driver" episode 1 established showing the Rainbow Transport team abducting Jo Do-cheol, portrayed by Cho Hyun-woo, who was a sex offender.

He was arrested for committing a crime against a child but was released due to mental and physical weakness.

To recall, the goal of the mysterious Rainbow Transport company, headed by the former Special Forces officer, Kim Do-ki, played by Lee Je-Hoon, offered a unique "revenge-call" service that hunts and avenges against criminals and evildoers.

"Taxi Driver" episode 1 also featured how Kim Do-gi and his team tracked Jo Do-cheol as he waited for him, pretending to be an ordinary taxi.

In the latter part of the season, Esom, who portrays a passionate prosecutor Kang Ha Na, will be suspicious of Kim Do Gi's unusual taxi company and his "special" service.

Aside from Lee Je-Hoon and the "Save Me 2" star, "Taxi Driver" cast includes Kim Eui Sung, who will play Jang Sung Chul, Lee Yoo Joon as Investigator Hwang and Pyo Ye Jin as the tech-savvy Go Eun, alongside the Rainbow Transport members Jang Hyuk-Jin, Bae Yoo-Ram, and Kim Eui-Sung, who will be playing Choi Kyung-Koo, Park Jin-Eon and Jang Sung-Cheol.

Fans Lauded "Taxi Driver's" Pilot Episode

Over Twitter, fans and viewers can't help but gush over the new drama, showcasing the stunning visuals of Lee Je-Hoon.

Meanwhile, an individual praised Pyo Ye Jin, who acted as the system hacker for the Rainbow Taxi company.

To recall, the 29-year-old actress replaced APRIL's Naeun after facing a wave of criticisms due to bullying allegations.

Director Park Joon-woo Reveals Secrets Behind "Taxi Driver"

Prior to the SBS drama's premiere, "Taxi Driver" director Park Joon-woo revealed more updates and what to expect for the upcoming drama.

"The series is about rescuing crime victims who are on the edge of despair, and about delivering a message to real-life victims that they are not the ones responsible for their pain and struggles," he mentioned during the recently concluded press conference, according to a report.

In addition, he also hinted at an action-packed storyline featuring breathtaking car chase incidents and thrilling scenes.

Moreover, the film director, who has worked with investigative journalism programs such as "Unanswered Questions," shared how they involved true stories of offenders getting away with their crimes.

During the press con, he mentioned that they incorporated cases "including issues involving school bullying and sexual exploitation" into the storyline of "Taxi Driver."
