"Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo" co-stars and real-life friends Lee Joon Gi and IU reunited and talked about their thoughts on having a second season for the hit 2016 series.
IU and Lee Joon Gi Hope for "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo" Season 2
In a recent special Naver NOW event, "DREAM," that Lee Joon Gi hosted in celebration of his birthday, singer-actress IU made a surprise phone call to greet and congratulate him.
Recalling, they starred as onscreen partners in the SBS historical-fantasy-romance drama "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo."
The two talked about their friendship through the years and the first drama project they met and worked on together. Lee Joon Gi mentioned the questions he often receives from fans: season 2 of "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo," and whether his character Wang So and IU's character Hae Soo will meet again.
In response to fans' curiosity, he said that it's realistically challenging to make another season. Still, nevertheless of its viability, Lee Joon Gi then asked IU if she would accept the project if ever a season 2 happened.
IU confessed, "I think most of the cast and crew who filmed the drama probably feel the same way of appearing again on the project."
She added that they had a great time working together and noticed that there are still many people watching and loving the drama. Lee Joon Gi was quick to agree with IU, and shared that even he can't believe that many people worldwide embrace and love the series.
IU positively shared that if the current condition gets better and right for them (cast of the drama) to gather together, there is no reason not to do it. The "Hotel Del Luna" star also pointed out that the actors who were in the drama had received overwhelming support and were all busy working on their solo projects.
"Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo" Unreleased Ending
Lee Joon Gi and IU revealed the supposed-to-be ending scene for their 2016 drama. According to them, they had filmed a scene, but it didn't make it on the final cut due to a change in the direction.
The "Flower Evil" star shared, "Our actress Lee Ji Eun (IU) did a great job during that scene. She showed amazing emotions that day. I think about how someone could even cry so sorrowfully."
He added that even up until now, everytime he remembers that scene, Lee Joon Gi would cry and feel emotional.
His previous leading lady also expressed her side regarding the unreleased scene. IU said that she felt sad they couldn't show the fans the scene wherein modern Hae Soo and Wang So meet.
She also praised her co-actor for his stunning visuals, "You look really amazing during that part. In the modern day scene, where you have short hair and are dressed in a beautiful suit, and handed me a handkerchief."
IU added she felt ashamed that the viewers weren't able to see it. She also confessed that Lee Joon Gi's fans would have gone crazy and wild if that scene had aired on TV.
After the fans knew the unreleased scene, they began pushing for a season 2. They wanted to see the love story of Wang So and Hae Soo continue in the modern era.
