"Waiting in the Rain," starring Kang Ha Neul and Chun Woo Hee, received an impressive achievement following its debut.
On its first weekend screening, the melodrama ranked number one with 91,191 viewers and exceeded a cumulative audience of 174,719, making it the top box office movie to date.

The newly released Korean movie beats "Recalled," featuring Seo Ye-ji and Kim Kang-Woo.
Prior to the "Waiting in the Rain" release, the mystery-thriller film directed by Seo Yoo-min took the top spot garnering 101,638 tickets from April 23 to 25.
Moreover, the movie reportedly earned around $853,826 on the said days, as cited by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC).

"Waiting in the Rain" Cast and Details
Released last April 28, the romance drama movie is helmed by the "Making Family" and "Suicide Forecast" director Jo Jin Mo.
"Waiting in the Rain," also dubbed as "Story of You and the Rain," revolved around the romance of Young Ho, played by Kang Ha Neul and So Hee, portrayed by Chun Woo Hee, through exchanging letters.
With this, they become each other's source of comfort as they get to know more about each other.

During their press conference, the 31-year-old actor revealed his thoughts upon accepting his role in Waiting in the Rain."
At the time, the award-winning actor mentioned that he finds the storyline and the script is "really good" and pointed out that the movie has a nice "atmosphere and tone" to it.
"It was easy to get immersed in the script, and instead of having a big dramatic ending, everything that had been building up until then burst open in small ways," he mentioned as obtained by a South Korean publication.
As for her co-star, the "Argon" actress shared that she "felt a sense of nostalgia," adding that the synopsis exudes "such quiet emotions."

Apart from the box office win of "Waiting in the Rain," the "MInari" movie, which happens to reign in the box office for weeks, garners 1 million cumulative audiences exactly 60 days since its release.
Interestingly, the Lee Isaac Chung movie is said to be the third film in South Korea to ever achieve such a milestone this year, following Disney-Pixar's "Soul" and the Japanese animated film "Demon Slayer: Infinite Train."
This success came days after Youn Yuh-Jung was hailed as Oscars 2021 Best Supporting Actress for her groundbreaking performance as grandma Soonja in "Minari."
She was able to outshine Hollywood's brightest stars, including award-winning Glenn Close and British actress Olivia Coleman, as well as Amanda Seyfried fort Mank and Bulgarian actress Maria Bakalova for the movie "Borat Subsequent Movie Film."
Youn Yuh-Jung's Oscar win made a significant impact in her home country after becoming the first-ever South Korean actress to win a Best Supporting Actress award at the Academy Awards and the first Asian woman to win the category since 1957.
