Gong Yoo is Only His Stage Name
The 42-year-old actor's full name is quite far from his stage name, Gong Yoo.
His legal name is Gong Ji Cheol, and he only came up with Gong Yoo due to the combination of his parents' last names--Gong from his father and Yoo his mother's last name.
Interestingly, the actor's name means "Share" in Korean.
In his previous interview, he once shared his thoughts about his stage name and revealed that using his parent's last names pushed him to become a good person; after all, he carried both of their last names.
Gong Yoo Almost Turned Down his Role in K-drama "Goblin"
With his decade-long career as an actor, Gong Yoo cemented his name in the entertainment industry thanks to his several notable dramas such as "Twenty years, "One Fine Day," and the popular K-drama "Coffee Prince" with beloved South Korean actress Yoon Eun Hye.
Another remarkable drama under his belt is the 2016 tvN series "Goblin," where he played the role of Kim Shin, the unbeatable general under the Goryeo period.
However, it was once revealed that Gong Yoo turned down the offer to join the cast of the fantasy K-drama.
During his interview with Esquire Korea, the A-lister shared what made him say yes to the offer.
It turns out that the "Goblin" writer Kim Eun Sook's previous works made him change his mind.
"I was more amazed by the power behind the drama after having to experience Kim's drama. The power that makes the audience crazy and falls into the drama. That's when I felt her words and trusted her. Because she can't predict the outcome, either, but she has let out all her long-held desires into Guardian, for sure. I felt that while shooting," he mentioned.
Gong Yoo's Dating History
Apart from his accolade of achievement, Gong Yoo was also involved in a string of romances with co-stars.
To recall, he once admitted in a previous interview that "dating" has become hard for him because he got used to being alone and is too mentally young to get married, despite his age.
However, he got involved in a rumored relationship, including his "Coffee Prince" leading lady Yoon Eun Hye. Unfortunately, there is no confirmation from both stars.
Another actress who is said to be Gong Yoo's girlfriend is Im Soo Jung, who both starred in K-drama "Finding Mr. Destiny." The rumor sparked that they secretly got married but was denied by the actress.
