It has been five years since the popular K-drama "Descendants of the Sun" starring Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo made millions of fans laugh and cry at the same time with their antics and sweet moments.
With this, the top rating KBS series showcased undeniable chemistry between the lead stars as they play the role of Captain Yoo Si Jin and Dr. Kang Mo Yeon.
Interestingly, the rom-com drama also became the start of Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo's off-screen romance as they, later on, became South Korea's most sought-after celebrity couple.
However, a lot of things occurred after "Descendants of the Sun" aired in 2016.
Following the surprise wedding of the Song-Song Couple in 2017, they have decided to file a divorce months after tying the knot due to "personality differences."
Despite this, the K-drama "Descendants of the Sun" is still one of the best and beloved series that most fans surely missed.
While viewers were curious as to what the cast members are up to know, here's a rundown of their latest activities and upcoming projects for the coming years.
Song Hye Kyo
Let's start with the Hallyu queen, Song Hye Kyo.
In the mega-hit K-series, she portrays the Haesung Hospital's cardiothoracic surgeon, Kang Mo Yeon.
After starring in "Descendants of the Sun," she was casted as the main character in the drama "Encounter" opposite Park Bo Gum, who happens to be Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki's friend.
After the tvN drama, the 39-year-old beauty is making a comeback on the small screen with her upcoming series "Now, We Are Breaking Up" with another South Korean heartthrob Jang Ki Yong.
Interestingly, the Hallyu queen is also rumored to star in K-drama "The Glory" penned by the "Descendants of the Sun" screenwriter Kim Eun Sook.
Song Joong Ki
"Descendants of the Sun" star Song Joong Ki is set to appear with several projects this 2021.
After the blockbuster KBS series, where he played the role of the Alpha Team captain, Yoo Shi Jin, the 35-year-old actor, starred in various top rating dramas, including "Arthdal Chronicles" and followed by another megahit drama "Vincenzo."
Now, he is set to lead the much-anticipated movie "Bogota" as well as the K-drama "The Youngest Son of a Chaebol" with "Hospital Playlist" actress Shin Hyun Bin, and probably the second season for "Arthdal Chronicles."
Jin Goo
There's no denying that Jin Goo's appearance in "Descendants Of The Sun" is his claim to fame as he played the role of Master Sergeant Seo Dae Yeong.
He even took home Best Supporting Actor at the fifth APAN Star Awards.
After his breakthrough performance, the South Korean star landed on several remarkable dramas and series - this includes "Night Light," "Untouchable," and his latest drama "Legal High" in 2019.
As for movies, he recently appeared in "You're So Precious to Me" together with child star Jung Seo Yeon.
Kim Ji Won
Just like Jin Goo, his on-screen partner Kim Ji Won, who portrays military doctor Yoon Myeong Joo, starred in several notable dramas, thanks to her breakthrough role in "Descendants of the Sun."
A year after the top-rating series, Kim Ji Won, led the rom-com K-drama "Fight for My Way" opposite Park Seo Joon. In 2020, she starred opposite Ji Chang Wook in "Lovestruck in the City."
She was also reunited with her "Descendants of the Sun" co-star Song Joong Ki in "Arthdal Chronicles" and is set to reprise her role in the upcoming "Arthdal Chronicles 2."
