After beating "Escape from Mogadishu" at the box office, "Sinkhole" is set to hit another milestone.
The movie, starring Lee Kwang Soo, Cha Seung Won, Kim Sung Kyun, "Kingdom" actress Kim Hye Joon and more, is getting the public's attention since it made a debut on the big screen last August 11.
'Sinkhole' is Set to Surpass the 1 Million Moviegoers
According to Newsen, Yeongjinwi integrated computer network noted that the disaster-comedy film is predicted to surpass the 1 million mark on its second week of release.
It came after the Kim Ji Hoon-directed movie had accumulated over 922,000 spectators in less than a week from its premiere.
To recall, "Sinkhole" recently topped the box office during its first weekend, with more than 251,000 spectators on the 14th and over 269,000 on the 15th.
With this, the new movie eclipsed Jo In Sung's "Escape from Mogadishu," which has been dominating the chart for several weeks since its release.
On top of these, the recently-debuted disaster comedy film set the record for reaching 500,000 viewers in the shortest time this 2021.
Having said that, "Sinkhole" is expected to reign at the box office for consecutive weeks with staggering audiences every week.

'Sinkhole' Details--From Cast, Synopsis and Why is it Worth Watching
Directed by "The Tower" and "Sector 7" PD Kim Ji Hoon and penned by Jeon Cheol Hong who is also the person behind the movie "Illang: The Wolf Brigade" and "The Admiral: Roaring Currents," Lee Kwang Soo's movie follows the story individuals who were trapped in a massive sinkhole right in the heart of the city.
In the movie, Kim Sung Kyun, who plays Park Dong Won waited more than a decade to purchase his dream house at Chungwoon Villa. Unfortunately, an accident occurred after a part of the villa collapse, making a 500 meters sinkhole into the ground.
With him is his neighbor, Jung Man Soo, portrayed by Cha Seung Won, a single father who works three part-time jobs to make his ends meet.
Joining the duo are Kim Seung Hyun and Eun Joo, played by Lee Kwang Soo and Kim Hye Joon, who is caught in the same dilemma while attending their boss' Park Dong Won's housewarming party
Apart from the actors, "Sinkhole" cast members also include veteran star Kim Hong Pa as the department head Seo, who is in charge of the rescue while Ko Chang Seok portrayed the role of a Rescue captain, and Nam Da Reum, who is currently starring in "The Great Shaman Ga Doo Shim" played Cha Seung Won's son Jung Seung Tae.
'Sinkhole' PD Expressed his Thoughts on the Talked About Disaster-Comedy Film
In one interview cited by a media outlet, Director Kim Ji Hoon explained that he wanted to highlight how people deal with natural disasters.
"I tried to show a situation in which ordinary people suddenly get caught in a disaster. Instead of focusing on the natural disaster itself, I wanted to show how people dealt with the situation and got through it."
In addition, he also praised the former "Running Man" host, Lee Kwang Soo calling him a "blessing" for the film, adding that he did not hold back to portray the character and "immersed himself deeply" as Deputy Kim Seung Hyun.
