Song Joong Ki is the 26th Chunsa International Film Festival's best actor!

The Hallyu star took home the prestigious title at the annual ceremony for his role in the sci-fi movie "Space Sweepers."

He managed to beat Sol Kyung Gu for the movie "The Book of Fish, Yoo Ah In in "Voice of Silence," "Squid Game" star Lee Jung Jae for the action crime "Deliver Us from Evil" and Cho Jin Woong in "Me and Me."

The South Korean heartthrob honored the staff members during his acceptance speech as he expressed his deep gratitude towards the production team.

"I believe I was able to have a good time filming the movie thanks to the many staff members at the film location. I want to give this honor to the staff members," he said.

Moreover, the award-winning star also thanked their amazing PD Jo Sung Hee and revealed why he accepted the role in "Space Sweepers."

"I contemplated a long time before deciding to film this movie. The reason I was able to choose this film is because of director Jo Sung Hee. I also want to thank everyone who made amazing recommendations to me."

Apart from the 36-year-old A-lister, "Space Sweepers" also won the best director.

While 26th Chunsa International Film Festival has Song Joong Ki as the newest best actor, Jeon Do Yeon snagged the best actress trophy for her role as Choi Yeon Hee in "Beasts Clawing at Straws."

The actress surpassed other contenders, including Ra Mi Ran in "Honest Candidate," Moon So Ri for "Three Sisters," Go Ah Sung in "Samjin Company English Class" Jeon Jeong Seo for the thriller film, "The Call," and Ye Soo Jung in "An Old Lady."

Song Joong Ki's 'Space Sweepers' is 'South Korea's First Space-Set Blockbuster' Says Netflix

In the action sci-fi movie, Song Joong Ki took on the role of Kim Tae Ho, a former commander of the Space Guards and the first-ever UTS Genius alongside Captain Jang, played by Kim Tae Ri.

Moreover, joining the cast are Jin Seon Kyu asPark Kyung Soo, a.k.a Tiger Park and Park Ye Rin, as the half-human and half robot, Dorothy.

"Space Sweepers" became a massive hit to fans that it became one of Netflix's blockbuster movies.

It rose as the streaming giant's most-watched film in 80 countries, dubbing them as "South Korea's first space-set blockbuster."

Not only that, millions of viewers are already looking forward to the film's second installment.

In September, rumors sparked that the hit sci-fi movie is set to return for part 2.

At the time, "Space Sweepers" executive producer Kim Soojin told Insight Korea that the team felt "happy" for the overwhelming response of the viewers.

With this, she confirmed that Song Joong Ki's movie would return with two more sequels.

"There is a high possibility that the 2nd and 3rd season dramas will also be produced. There are also scenarios that are actually being prepared," she said in the interview.
