Just days after "Pachinko" met the local and international audience, it generated buzz online and received various reactions from viewers.
Viewers Compare 'Pachinko' From Original Novel and Drama Adaptation
On March 31, the media published a report revealing how local netizens and critics in Japan are arguing over the drama. Particularly, they debated over the cultural history shown in the piece. The responses were based on the post shared on Twitter.
It has been said that most of the explosive responses came from Koreans and the Western audience. A Korean who lived in Japan shared an opinion saying that Apple TV+'s "Pachinko" does not receive much attention in their country. He added that most of the people there consumed other OTT platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.
The 38-year-old person who gave the review explained that although the Japanese have a high interest in K-dramas, "Pachinko" seems to be unpopular because the series is produced by American production.
On the other hand, the interest in the original novel penned by Korean-American writer, Min Jin Lee is quite high.

Another individual shared her opinion, according to her, the Japanese version of the novel was released on the same day when "Pachinko" premiered. Many have purchased the book since it became available in the Japanese market.
'Pachinko' Episode 1 Surpasses 5.6 Million Views on YouTube
A Twitter user said on the post that he has been a fan of K-dramas, and he has high expectations for Lee Min Ho's small screen comeback. However, he did not feel the emotions in every scene and remained neutral from a third party's point of view.
Another social media user stated, "The problem is that the concerns of some far-right forces claiming that the subject and content of the drama are 'distorted and glorified history' and netizens who have not yet read the novel will have different feelings when watching the drama."
But with all the reviews from the viewers, "Pachinko" is showing continued success and already has more than 5.6 million views of its first episode. The episode was released free on YouTube under Apple TV+'s channel.
