Being Kim Book Joo, Lee Sung Kyung did not only transform herself into a college student by chopping her long locks and wearing funky outfits, but she also gained weight for the role.

According to a report, Lee Sung Kyung gained even more while they were starting the production.

Moreover, she also pointed out that they are articles highlighting her weight gain at the time, but the actress revealed that it was only the start of her weight transformation.

In an interview obtained by the outlet, she "kept gaining more and more weight. It was a matter of eating more and getting bloated in order to match with Bok Joo."

The model-actress emphasized that her weight peaked during the middle of the drama.

"I even thought about not losing the weight since my body had become muscular due to weightlifting," she added.

Interestingly, all her hard work paid off after "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" received overwhelming support and was loved by viewers globally.

There's no doubt that it became among the best K-dramas in 2016, alongside Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo's "Descendants of the Sun."

However, wrapping up "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo," Lee Sung Kyung had to shed some pounds in preparation for her next K-drama.

In an article cited by a media outlet, she admits that she restricts herself from indulging in salty foods.

During her appearance in JTBC's" 'Please Take Care of My Refrigerator", she revealed the types of food she usually avoids.

Lee Sung Kyung's diet does not include salty, glutenous, and starchy food. For the actress, these types of food make her bloat.

"I never liked salty food. I liked them when I was young, but I get bloated easily, so I don't eat them. I also bloat a lot if I eat flour, so I don't eat it often. I don't think gluten goes well with me," she mentioned.

Interestingly, dieting that is equivalent to restricting yourself when eating and borderline starving yourself is a no-no to Lee Sung Kyung's diet.

According to the actress, she fears that if she starves herself, "there will be a yo-yo [effect]" on her body. So instead, she eats slowly and adds exercise to boost her metabolism rate.
