The upcoming series is based on the webtoon "Money Game" and "Pie Game" and will be helmed by "Emergency Declaration" director Han Jae Rim.

Months after announcing the complete cast lineup, IU withdraws from the drama.

According to an outlet, Studio N, the producer behind "Our Beloved Summer," "Our Blues," and Kim Go Eun's "Yumi's Cells," officially made the announcement confirming that IU departs as a cast member of "Money Game."

Conflict with her schedule prompted the actress to drop out as one of the lead stars.

Currently, the singer-actress is in France to attend the Cannes Film Festival 2022 for her movie "Broker."

IU is joined by co-stars Song Kang Ho, Kang Dong Won, Lee Joo Young, and renowned Japanese director Koreeda Hirokazu.

In addition, the 29-year-old star is also headlining the cast of soon to be released movie "Dream" with Park Seo Joon.

The Lee Byung Hun-directed sports-themed movie recently wrapped up its filming in Hungary and is yet to announce the premiere date.

As for the forthcoming series "Money Game," this is supposed to be IU's K-drama comeback after two years since the smash hit fantasy series "Hotel Del Luna" with Yeo Jin Goo was aired.

It means that viewers will be seeing more of IU on the big screen with her two upcoming films.

Following IU's decision to exit the upcoming K-drama, she will be replaced by Chun Woo Hee from "Be Melodramatic."

To recall, a representative of Naver Webtoon previously confirmed the five lead stars who will join the mystery thriller series.

The star-studded lineup includes IU, Ryu Jun Yeol, Park Jung Min, Park Hae Joon, and Bae Sung Woo.

Adding to the list is "The World of the Married" star Park Hae Joon as well as rookie actress Lee Joo Young, Lee Yul Eum, and Moon Jung Hee.

Now, due to IU's decision, the female lead is offered to Chun Woo Hee and will take the role of the eighth participant.

The upcoming K-drama depicts the story of eight contestants who joined the high-stake variety contest called "Money Game." The rule is to remain in the studio surrounded by nothing but concrete walls.

Participants who managed to survive in the area for 100 days will win the whopping cash prize of 44.8 billion won.

"Money Game" will highlight emotional confrontation and mental battles among the participants with the goal of winning the cash prize.

According to Newsen, the upcoming K-drama is slated to start filming this 2022.
