Han Ji Min, Kim Woo Bin's 'Our Blues' Praised For Story Inclusivity
tvN's "Our Blues" is a melodrama that depicts the stories of characters living in Jeju Island while focusing on their dreams, hopes, relationships and love. It stars Han Ji Min, Kim Woo Bin, Lee Jung Eun, Shin Min Ah, Lee Byung Hun and more.
The story of Lee Young Ok (Han Ji Min) and her twin sister Young Hui (Lee Eun Hye) which aired last week generated a lot of buzz for its inclusivity and good influence to viewers.
It showcases the story of a person with Down Syndrome, the love of a sister and the patience of a young man in love.
"Our Blues" became an emotional rollercoaster ride as the role of Lee Young Hui was actually played by Jung Eun Hye, an actor with Down Syndrome.
In the series, she captured the hearts of many by her gripping and immersive acting, as well as chemistry with Han Ji Min and Kim Woo Bin.
Screenwriter Noh Hee Kyung revealed that she communicated with the actress for over a year prior to filming.
Han Ji Min and Kim Woo Bin also allotted separate time with the actress to get to know one another. Thankfully, this helped Jung Eun Hye to act in a drama filled with unfamiliar faces.

In particular, Jung Eun Hye admitted that she never expected to receive such a role in a big scale drama.
She expresses her gratitude to the production unit of "Our Blues," which allowed her to meet amazing people and tell her story as a person with disability with prejudice.
In case you didn't know, the pictures and drawings in the latest episode were drawn by the actress herself, a real caricature artist in real life.
She drew the actors, as well as the staff of the series, on days without filming. The bird trademark that Kim Woo Bin gave her in the drama as a gift is also a tool Jung Eun Hye uses in real life.
'Our Blues' Becomes A Drama That Transcends Disabilities
Apart from Down Syndrome, the drama also highlights the story of Byeol, a recurring character with difficulties in speaking and hearing.
She is played by actress Lee So Byeol, an actual deaf actress. In the drama, she sells coffee at the wet market together with her sister.
Byeol communicates with the characters through both sign language and dialogue. Lee So Byeol spoke about the difficulties she experienced while filming the series.
She said, "People often think that just because I'm deaf, I can't speak. It's actually different for every person with disabilities."
The actress revealed that she paid attention to detail in using sign languages, as it may vary from a person to one person.
Lee So Byeol conveyed the warm atmosphere of the filming site. She said, "I can't hear the director when they say "action!" or "cut!" but my co-actors signal with gestures, so I feel secure."
In particular, the latest episode catches the attention of the viewers as it hints at possible romance between her and Ki Jun (Baek Seung Do).
