Lee Sung Kyung's phenomenal drama "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" is solely inspired by the story of South Korea's national weightlifting Jang Mi Ran.
The actress played the role of a South Korean athlete based on Jang Mi Ran, a gold medalist in the 75kg category.
She broke the world records in snatch with 140kg, jerk with 186kg and combined with 326kg.
Lee Sung Kyung truly dedicated herself to the role as she tried to gain weight to match Jang Mi Ran's athletic build.
Park Bo Gum
Park Bo Gum played the role of the genius Go player Choi Taek in the slice of life series "Reply 1988."
Unbeknownst to drama fans, his character is based on Lee Chang Ho, a professional Go player of 9-dan rank.

Cha Tae Hyun
Apart from his comedic and masculine roles, Cha Tae Hyun portrayed a real life inspired character in the movie "Because I Love You."
His role was heavily inspired by the talented musician Yoo Jae Ha who passed away at 25 due to a car accident.
Cha Tae Hyun looked a lot like the musician, which is why he secured the role. In particular, Cha Tae Hyun's film is slightly more humorous and easy to watch than the life story of the late musician.
