THIS ‘Happiness’ Actor Reveals He Dislocated Jaw For Playing Villain Roles

Lee Joo Seung, whose last K-drama was with Park Hyung Sik and Han Hyo Joo, shares shocking revelations regarding his health. Although he is best known as an award-winning independent actor, this 33-year-old often plays villain roles in K-drama. Viewers might recognize him as the weird-looking cleaner named Andrew in tvN's K-zombie series "Happiness," later revealed to be the villain.

During his appearance on MBC's "Radio Star," he shared the downside of playing antagonist roles.

Lee Joo Seung Reveals he Dislocated his Jaw After Playing Villain Characters for 15 Years

As obtained by a news portal, Lee Joo Seung had a facial injury after playing villain characters for 15 years.

The actor mentioned that he often plays "secretive or killer-like roles in independent films," noting that one of them includes a scene where he is being tortured.

"In the past, there was no martial arts director when filming independent films. They asked me if I could get slapped, and I said yes," he mentioned.

Unfortunately, being an actor is not a walk in the park but may include action scenes and physical stunts. In his case, he had to endure the cold weather and being slapped several times.

"In the middle of winter, I had to go into ice water and get slapped 20 times while tied up," he shared, adding, " However, I was hit more than 100 times due to NG. My body froze, and I felt so emotional that I said, 'I'm going to the bathroom,' then cried a lot there."

Unfortunately, the scene caused him injury, and he suffered from dislocating his jaw. He even had a hard time eating after the scene.

"If I chew Stir-fried Cartilage, my jaw will hurt. I can't even eat Grilled Pork Belly."

Before cementing his name as an independent actor, Lee Joo Seung studied theater at Seoul University.

His first on-screen appearance was the 2009 movie "Members of the Funeral" followed by "One Night Stand'' in 2010, and he became the lead star of the youth-oriented drama "U.F.O." in 2012.

From his various indie film appearances, Lee Joo Seung gained praise for his exceptional acting in the 2014 film "Shuttlecock."

Interestingly, through this film, he bagged his first ever recognition as Independent Star Award at the 39th Seoul Independent Film Festival and brought home the Best New Actor from the 23rd Buil Film Awards.

Besides his villain role in "Happiness," Lee Joo Seung also appeared in Namgoong Min's "Doctor Prisoner," where he took the role of one of the inmates.

He also played the villain role in "Voice" and played the role of Hwang Kyung Il, who runs an explicit site called Huntingman and harasses his female victims.
