The beloved medical K-drama "Hospital Playlist" is set to return with a different perspective on the 99ers. Headlined by Jeon Mi Do, Jo Jung Suk, Yoo Yeon Seok, Kim Dae Myung, and Jung Kyung Ho, the series, directed by PD Shin Won Ho, is making a comeback with a prequel.

Here's What We Know About 'Hospital Playlist' Prequel

Previously, rumors sparked that the renowned director was working on a new project. At the time, reports cited that the upcoming series would showcase a spin-off of the "Hospital Playlist."

Although there's no confirmation yet following the news, a drama official mentioned that the PD is conducting auditions for actors.

"I understand that PD Shin Won-ho called some actors and auditioned in a confidential manner. It is still ongoing," the source hinted.

However, in the upcoming project, PD Shin Won Ho will be "participating as a creator, not a director."

Just weeks after the news broke, Star News reported that the said project is the prequel to "Hospital Playlist."

According to the outlet, the upcoming series will depict the story of Mido and Falasol's college days.

To recall, it was the band formed by the 99ers Lee Ik Jun, Chae Song Hwa Ahn Jung Won, Yang Suk Hyung, and Kim Jun Wan before working at Yulje Medical Center.

The prequel will showcase a trip down memory lane as the story highlights the remarkable moments that happened 20 years ago.

While the series will feature the same characters, different actors will portray Mido and Falasol.

As cited by the outlet, rookie actors will take on the roles of Lee Ik Jun, Chae Song Hwa Ahn Jung Won, Yang Suk Hyung and Kim Jun Wan.

In addition to the changes to the "Hospital Playlist" prequel, the K-drama will be directed by a different filmmaker.

With this, the new director and cast are yet to be announced.

Will the Prequel Have Same Success as 'Hospital Playlist' Seasons 1 and 2?

Introduced in 2020 by PD Shin Won Ho, the medical K-drama instantly became a fan-favorite by viewers. The audience was delighted with the heartfelt stories of patients and staff at Yulje Medical Center.

In addition, viewers were drawn to the chemistry of the five main characters played by Jeon Mi Do, Jo Jung Suk, Yoo Yeon Seok, Kim Dae Myung, and Jung Kyung Ho.

Premiering with 6.325 percent viewership for the pilot episode, it jumped to the show's first double-digit rating in episode 5.

Interestingly, after 12 episodes, "Hospital Playlist" season 1 ended with 14.142 percent.

As for its second season, the medical K-drama recorded an average nationwide rating of 14.080 percent.
